An Introduction to Hunting Fieldsports!Working lurchers are used for hunting various quarry, and the right type/breed can prove unstoppable on rabbits,fox etc. Lurchers are great allround hunting dogs, from ferreting, coursing, lamping they can bring home some big bags of game if trained right and to a high standard. The most popular lurcher crosses are the saluki, deerhound, collie, bedlington and bull crosses all mainly hybridised with the greyhound,.The type of cross used will be dependanton what quarry the hunter plans to work his lurchers too. The versatility of lurchers is unsurpassed being both a hunter and companion. Lurchers are used for fast action and good sport. When purchasing a lurcher pup you won't go wrong with buying a pup from a good proven bloodline,although this usually comes at a price it is the neccesary foundations to build an unstoppable working companion on that will fill the pot for years to come.
Working terriers are very efficient for the control of quarry to ground, they are worked all over the world to various quarry from fox, opossum, ground hog, badger, and other species. The main working terriers used are the jack russell, patterdale, fell and border but this varies depening what country your in. They are either used to bolt quarry to either net or gun or are dug down to using locator collars attached to the terriers and dispatched.Working terriers are an effective method of vermin/pest control and play a vital part in hunting.
Snaring and trapping are other forms of pest control,efficent and cost effective, from snares or bodygrips the range is wide and varied for different quarry. Snaring is an art in itself and once mastered will fill the pot for years to come.
Pigeon Shooting is a popular country sport. It is a fundamental part of rural life, which brings pleasure to many, aswell as being a major force for the conservation of wildlife habitats and rural landscapes. There are four main types of sport shooting with shotguns in the UK; rough shooting, driven shooting, pigeon shooting and wildfowling. Stalking, the management of deer using rifles, is another form of shooting.

Ferreting is an efficient,fun and important way of controlling the rabbit population, which has been enjoyed as a sport for many centuries by people from many diverse backgrounds and age groups. Ferreting is sometimes the only method available for Rabbitcontrol, as it can be used in areas such as banks and verges adjacent to footpaths and roads. Ferreting with dogs and guns is also a popular sport.
